The Tipo's rear hatch was too heavy to be made of metal and effectively stay in place, so they made it of fiberglass instead.

I think they made it from fiberglass so that it was easier to pick up once it had fallen off.

You must live in a dry salt free area?

They are okay cars, they just rust.

Yup, Southern Brazil. It snows sometimes, but I don't think people around here know that putting salt on the streets is a thing, so cars are typically rust free. I checked mine just a couple months ago, and it's about as sound as it was when my old man bought it in 95.

Lucky. Untreated, it would start rusting in five years or so here. We get our cars dinitrolled.

True, but on the other hand, driving on the back streets in my home town in the colder mornings when dew freezes over is terrifying... If that was anymore frequent than a few days per year, I'd seriously start considering throwing salt myself on the streets

Winter tires work like magic. I'm not trying to be funny. They are brilliant.

I know right, I would definitely own a set by now, but I'm not sure we can even get them down here...

Good question. It snows a lot in certain parts of northern brazil, so i would think so? They might be expensive, though. Airing down your tires also works sometimes, it get more temperature into them. Be careful not to air down so much that you collapse the thread, else you'll get in a big accident.

They had the same problem with the Tipo's smaller brother, the Uno. The rear hatch was god awful heavy and it was made out of metal.
